Driver Trainning

14th May 2012

Just an update on the Olympic driver training yesterday, it was a 10 hour meeting and driving assessment.

We had the main presentation regarding where the cars will be kept, health and safety, who we would be driving, anyone from press, media, athletes, coaches, officials, Chef De Missions, Guests etc.

BP will provide the fuel as they are the sponsors, therefore we will have a free petrol card to fill up as and when.

At present London are in the process of marking out the routes for the Olympic venues on the roads, which will mean only LOGOC will be able to drive in these lanes, at no time will buses or taxis be able to use it, which will make the routes easier for us to drive to and from the venues.

The cars are equipped with Satnav and a special Olympic Route devise has been programmed into each vehicle. There is special tracking on the cars and a special SOS button should anything untoward happen, which is linked up to the police. Apparently once the button is pressed you will have a swarm of armed police surrounding the car to protect against any harmful events.

There were 2 people to a car with the instructor, and we had to take turns to drive the different routes, a great experience for me as I have never driven in the city of London.

I believe the next part of our driving will be to take the cars out on our own next time to get used to the routes even more, I will keep you informed on this.

Olympic Uniform

As promised pictures of the new Olympic Uniform that the Games Makers
will be wearing during the Games. I am sure you will agree this is a fantastic looking Uniform and plenty of Purple...

Buzzing with excitement

10 May 2012

I am buzzing with excitement! I had my 5th Module training this afternoon, where we are told what countries we would be assigned to.

Guess who I will be assigned to? No other than our own GBR, as you may guess I am a little giddy right now. There are 12 Games Makers that are assigned to team GB, with an estimated team size of 754, so not many stressed athletes to look after!

The good news is that there is another Kraft Employee Andy Swift who will be joining me looking after Team GB.

Most of the Games Makers already know who they are assigned to now, from what I already know, someone has been assigned to New Zealand, another one Bahamas, and the US Virgin Islands..

So as you can see things are starting to hot up nicely now. I have my Driving Course to go on this Sunday, which is a full day 8.30am – 6pm. The second course for me is 9th June.
We will then have venue training, I am not sure if it is the same weekend yet as the British Olympic Trials which I will be involved in, as they have just changed the dates.

My first day will start on the 9th July and I will be there until the 15th August.
