Just
an update on the Olympic driver training yesterday, it was a 10 hour meeting
and driving assessment.
We
had the main presentation regarding where the cars will be kept, health and
safety, who we would be driving, anyone from press, media, athletes, coaches,
officials, Chef De Missions, Guests etc.
BP
will provide the fuel as they are the sponsors, therefore we will have a free
petrol card to fill up as and when.
At
present London are in the process of marking out the routes for the Olympic
venues on the roads, which will mean only LOGOC will be able to drive in these
lanes, at no time will buses or taxis be able to use it, which will make the
routes easier for us to drive to and from the venues.
The
cars are equipped with Satnav and a special Olympic Route devise has been
programmed into each vehicle. There is special tracking on the cars and a
special SOS button should anything untoward happen, which is linked up to the
police. Apparently once the button is pressed you will have a swarm of armed
police surrounding the car to protect against any harmful events.
There
were 2 people to a car with the instructor, and we had to take turns to drive
the different routes, a great experience for me as I have never driven in the
city of London.
I
believe the next part of our driving will be to take the cars out on our own
next time to get used to the routes even more, I will keep you informed on
this.
